What is sport stacking?
Sport stacking (also known as cup stacking) involves stacking and down stack specially designed cups in specific sequences as fast as possible. It's a recognised sport with competitions held worldwide, including here in New Zealand.
What ages is it suitable for?
Sport stacking is suitable for students from around Year 1 through to secondary school and beyond. The activity scales well, younger students enjoy the basic sequences, while older students can challenge themselves with speed and competition formats.
Do students need prior experience?
No experience is needed at all. Most students can learn the basic 3-6-3 stack within a single session. It's one of the quickest activities to get a whole class participating and enjoying together.
How can it be used in PE and the classroom?
In PE, sport stacking works well as a warm-up, a station activity, or a standalone unit. In the classroom, it can be used as a brain break, a focus activity, or to support lessons on goal-setting and personal improvement. It requires minimal space and setup time.
